Job title: EL Teacher

Classes you teach: Work readiness/Life skills and Reading and Math for Adult EL

Previous work experience: 911 dispatcher, Animal Control Officer and Crime Prevention Officer.

Years with the district: 3.5

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I love birds. I have heritage breed chickens that I keep for eggs. I’m a life-long birdwatcher and self-educated naturalist. I’m a gardener and now I’m learning about beekeeping….fascinating.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?

I’m learning to speak Arabic.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in education

While I was in Mankato finishing my bachelor’s degree in 2009, I volunteered to help at their ABE school and I loved it.

What do you enjoy most about working with students?  I really like to meet, help and learn from people of other languages and cultures.

Share a fun project you've worked on or innovative teaching method you've used this year. What made it memorable for you?  We started doing ‘dictation’ sentences with our adult students. This is both a listening and writing exercise for them. I was surprised to see how much they liked it. It showed them (and me) how much English they already know – but didn’t know they knew!

That do you enjoy about being part of Faribault Public Schools Community Education?

Working in a happy work environment with good colleagues and students that want to learn!  What more could you ask for?
