Name: Bridget Lund

Job title:  Adult Basic Ed teacher

Classes you teach: Adult ESL

Previous work experience: When I moved to Faribault 20 years ago, I worked for ABC Bus Companies. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last 15 years.

Years with the district: This is my first year

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy skiing and hiking with my family. We love to travel. I enjoy live music especially outside on a nice sunny day.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know

I majored in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology in college. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do, but I envisioned myself roaming around a National Park all day. When that opportunity didn’t present itself, my parents told me to just get a job with benefits!

Why did you decide to pursue a career in education?

I have substitute taught for several years and started volunteering in the adult ESL classroom regularly last year. I enjoyed working with these students so much that when a position became available, I jumped at the opportunity to apply.

What do you enjoy most about working with students?

My students love learning and are interested and engaged with whatever we are working on. They ask great questions and really want to know all they can about what they are learning. I learn just as much from them as they do from me. I really enjoy getting to know them and practicing their conversational skills is a great way to do that.

Share a fun project you've worked on or innovative teaching method you've used this year. What made it memorable for you?

I have been showing my students a Learner’s Word of the Day each morning. Sometimes they are phrases and sometimes just one word. But as I look at words and phrases that have been familiar to me….I am learning that English is a very difficult language to master. It has helped me to see that things need to be broken down and explained more thoroughly.

What do you enjoy about being part of Faribault Public Schools Community Education?

I enjoy working at  the Faribault Education Center because it is a wonderful place for the students to feel a sense of belonging. Between classes, we have a space for them to gather and chat (in English). Our building is a hive of activity.  In addition to the ESL and GED classrooms we have a preschool classroom. There are always people coming for Professional Development or Community Learning opportunities. I enjoy being a part this very lively atmosphere.
